Aquoric provides in-browser route tools and the GPXCompass Android app. Your GPX/KML/SHP files are processed locally in the browser or on your device. Maps, place search, external fonts/CDNs and the beta sign-up form may involve third-party services as described below.
This Privacy Policy applies to Aquoric's website tools and to GPXCompass, the Android navigation application presented by Aquoric ("we", "us", "our"). It explains how information is handled when you import routes, use maps, download GPX files, use converters or enable tracking and alerts in the Android app.
For privacy questions about Aquoric or GPXCompass, contact contact@aquoric.com.
GPXCompass uses precise device location to display your position on the Google Map, follow a selected GPX route, calculate distance from the track, trigger deviation alerts, and support compass-oriented map and camera behaviour.
When tracking and coverage alerts are enabled, GPXCompass checks whether an internet-capable Wi-Fi or mobile network is available. It uses this status locally to warn when online maps or communication may be unavailable and to notify you when connectivity returns. Aquoric does not receive a history of your network status.
GPXCompass opens route files that you select and stores app data on your device. This may include:
Aquoric does not provide an app server to upload these files or records.
GPXCompass is configured to allow Android backup and device-to-device transfer for data stored in its persistent stores. Depending on your Android/Google backup settings, track metadata, map-load diagnostics and data retained in legacy app storage after an upgrade may be copied to your backup provider or transferred to a new device. The current loaded-route session store is configured to be excluded from backup. You can manage backup behaviour through your device or Google account settings.
GPXCompass does not collect into developer-owned systems your name, email address, advertising identifiers, payment information, biometric data, browsing history, GPX files or location history. The app does not include Aquoric-operated analytics or advertising SDKs.
The Aquoric website (aquoric.com) offers free in-browser tools: the GPX route viewer, the Camino de Santiago catalogue, the planner and route converters such as KML/KMZ→GPX, GPX→KML and SHP→GPX. These tools process your files entirely in your browser; your GPX, KML, KMZ or shapefile data is not uploaded to, or stored on, our servers.
The route viewer stores your imported routes, points, notes and preferences only locally in your browser (for example IndexedDB/localStorage) until you delete them or clear site data. The website also lets you download GPX files and ZIP packages; generating these downloads happens in your browser.
The route viewer and planner use external map tiles and libraries to display maps and interface components, including OpenStreetMap/CARTO, OpenTopoMap, Esri imagery, Leaflet, JSZip, Google Fonts and similar CDN-hosted resources. Those providers may receive technical request information such as your IP address, browser details and the map area requested. Aquoric does not operate those third-party services.
The route viewer includes an optional map search. When you use it, the text you type is sent to a third-party geocoding service based on OpenStreetMap (Photon/Komoot) to find places; your IP address is processed by that service to answer the request. We do not store these searches.
If you sign up for the GPXCompass Android beta tester programme, we collect the information you submit in the sign-up form — primarily your Google account email (required by Google Play to grant access to the closed test) and any optional details you provide (such as language or device model). The legal basis is your consent, and the sole purpose is to run the beta programme: give you test access, send related instructions and updates, and provide the promised lifetime PRO licence at launch.
This data is not sold, shared with third parties for commercial purposes, or used for advertising. We may rely on a third-party form and hosting provider (for example Google Forms and our static hosting provider) acting as processors. We keep the data only for the duration of the programme. You can withdraw consent and request deletion at any time (see “Your choices and rights” and the Data Deletion page) by emailing contact@aquoric.com.
GPXCompass uses or may request the following Android access for its functionality:
You can revoke any permission at any time through your device's system settings. Revoking a permission may limit certain app features.
GPXCompass relies on Google Maps Platform / Google Play services to provide its live online map and location-related Android services. Requests required to display the map can concern the area viewed in the map, which may correspond to your route or current position. In connection with these services, Google may process technical, device, usage or request information under Google's own terms and privacy policy.
GPXCompass does not integrate advertising networks or Aquoric-operated analytics platforms such as Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics.
Aquoric does not sell your personal data or share your GPX files, notes or location history with advertisers or data brokers. Information may be processed by Google when you use Google Maps / Google Play services, by your Android backup provider if device backup is enabled, or where disclosure is required by applicable law.
GPXCompass stores route data and preferences locally using Android app storage. Aquoric does not maintain a remote GPXCompass user database. Data remains on your device until removed through the app, cleared through Android settings or removed by uninstalling the app, subject to any Android backup or transferred copy controlled through your backup provider.
Keep your device and associated backup account secured and up to date to protect information stored or backed up by Android.
Depending on your location, you may have data protection rights. Because Aquoric does not hold a remote GPXCompass user database, most choices are available directly on your device:

We may update this Privacy Policy as GPXCompass or applicable requirements change. Updates will be reflected on this page with a revised "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, in the legal information presented in the app.
